Program Overview

The Modified T-Ball 5u- 6u (TEAMS) program is designed for young players taking their first steps into organized baseball. This is a competitive introductory program that teaches the fundamentals of the game in a fun, structured, and supportive team setting.

Our coaches focus on age-appropriate instruction in hitting, throwing, catching, baserunning, and simple game rules, while consistently encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and growing confidence on the field.

Practices and games will be scheduled within this time frame. A detailed schedule with specific days, times, and field locations will be shared with families prior to the start of the season.

What to Expect

Modified T-Ball Format

The “modified” format bridges the gap between traditional tee-ball and more advanced levels of play. Players will primarily hit from a batting tee, with gradual introduction of coach-assisted elements (such as soft toss or limited coach pitch) as the group is ready. Rules are simplified to keep the game moving, maximize each child’s involvement, and ensure players stay engaged and have fun.

Player Development

• Core fundamental skills: throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and baserunning
• Basic understanding of field positions and simple game rules
• Emphasis on teamwork, communication, listening skills, and good sportsmanship
• Positive, encouraging feedback and instruction tailored to young players

Competitive Team Environment

While the primary goal is learning and enjoyment, players will be placed on organized teams, participate in scheduled games, and experience a light level of competition appropriate for their age. Scores may be kept, but the focus remains on effort, improvement, participation, and developing a love for the game.

Parent Information

Parents can expect timely, clear communication from coaches and the Irving Boys Baseball Association regarding practice and game schedules, field locations, and any weather-related updates or changes.

We encourage positive, supportive sideline behavior that emphasizes effort, sportsmanship, and fun rather than wins and losses.

Families may be asked to provide basic equipment such as a properly sized baseball glove and athletic shoes or cleats. Additional information about recommended gear, uniforms, and any optional equipment (such as bats or helmets) will be provided after registration.
